This
is only a small sample of the MANY rides offered and listed with
the Southern Bicycle League. Please check their website link below
for their complete ride calendar.
- Tuesday
weekly - Melton's App & Tap - 6:30 PM - Moderate.
The route is around 15 miles from Melton's through Avondale Estates
and back. Over the bridge, around the lake, through the cemetery,
through the seminary and through the park. This very social group
meets after the ride at Melton's for fun, food, and spirits. Meet
in the parking lot at Melton's App & Tap at the corner of
N. Decatur Rd. and Scott Blvd. in Decatur. Helmets as well as
head and tail lights are required (lights required during Standard
Time). No ride if raining. For more information call Mike or Larry

- Tuesday
weekly - Bicycle South Fast Pace - 6:30 PM - Strenuous.
This is a fast paced version of one of the SBL's most popular
rides. Not for the faint of heart! Ride goes through mostly residential
neighborhoods to Piedmont Park and back. Optional longer loops
. 12 to 20 miles. Helmets required. For more information call

- Thursday
weekly - Decatur Wonderful Evening Ride - 6:30
PM - Moderate. Starts in the CVS drug store parking lot at the
corner of W. Ponce de Leon and Commerce Dr. in downtown Decatur.
Helmets are required! This is a moderate ride through residential
neighborhoods. There are 11 or 18 mile options. Stay for dinner
and refreshments afterwards. No ride if raining. Park in the Decatur

- Saturday
weekly - Old Freight Room Ride - 2 PM - An easy
11 mile ride through Avondale Estates and Decatur on mainly quiet
residential streets. Special attention given to beginning riders.
Leaves from the old Freight Room (Decatur Train Depot) at the
corner of College Avenue and Candler Dr. Socializing and refreshments
at a local establishment after the ride. For more information,

- May 17-18 Action
Cycling 200. A charity bicycle ride that begins and ends at
Emory University. This 2 day event has raised more than $300,000.00
over the past 5 years for the Emory Vaccine Center and its search
for an effective vaccine against HIV/AIDS. 100% of the donations
raised by riders and crews are given to the center. There are
ample opportunities to participate - riders, volunteers, teams,
and relay squads - for more information, visit the site at www.actioncycling.org
- May 18 - Tour De
Cure - Options of 8 miles, 25K, 50K, and 100K. Ride the "silk
sheets" in South Metro Atlanta and enjoy terrain so smooth
and scenery so beautiful you may think you're dreaming. Fully
catered rest stops, lunch, and plenty of route support. For more

- June 8th - Bicyle
South Stone Mountain Ride
- Sunday - 9 AM. Join the Bicycle South Crew for a relaxed, fun
ride out to the mountain and back. There are two routes - on the
road for the faster folks or on the PATH trail for a more relaxed
pace. Free refreshments afterwards featuring Brian's incredible
Spinach Dip and Jane's award winning Texas Black Bean Caviar.
This is a great ride for beginners, families, and kids (as long
as the kids are riding a 24 inch wheel bike, in a trailer, or
on a Tag-Along). Bring your friends or come meet some new ones.

- June 7-14 - BRAG
2008. The tentative route for this year's Bicycle Ride Across
Georgia (BRAG) is Atlanta to St. Simons. Visit the BRAG
web site or register at Active.com.
