Mountain - Full Suspension
These are mountain bikes
that come with dual suspension, that is, a shock absorbing system
on the front as well as the rear of the bike. Be prepared, the technology
that answers problems with brake jack and pedal bob, as well as
the ability to tune that suspension for different rider weights
and terrain, is fairly expensive. If you really want to mountain
bike but have a limited budget, check out some of the more sophisticated
hard tail mountain bikes with front suspension.
Full suspension bikes are classified according to overall suspension
travel distance in front and the rear, as well as intent! For the
cross country mountain biker who is looking to be more comfortable
and less fatigued, a bike like this can make mountain biking a real
pleasure because one does not have to work so hard to pick a line.
The fatigue absorbing capabilities of a full suspension cross country
mountain bike are amazing.
For those who like riding down mountains in full body armor at 50
mph, a full suspension bike can also be a real pleasure. Just note,
we are talking about two totally different suspension bicycles.
The bike that is capable of 10 foot drops at 50 mph, isn't likely
to be easy to ride on your local single track. It's going to be
heavy, possibly not have a front derailleur and may be up to or
more than 8" of suspension travel.
Again,
effective full suspension technology does not come cheaply. So far,
no manufacturer has designed and produced an effective full suspension
bike that really works off road, for less then $1000.00. Still,
more and more folks have jumped on the full suspension bandwagon.
