Mountain
- Hard Tail
Hardtail
Mountain Bikes are becoming a little more rare these days with
all of the technological advancements in full-suspension. Hardtails
feature front suspension (tunable for rider weight), low gearing
(to get you up the hills), and wheels durable enough for the average
sized rider to take off-road. The main frame is a rigid design as
opposed to the full-suspension bicycle where both the frame and
the fork have shocks.
You
can find hardtails starting about $500, and going up to the multi-thousand
dollar range for race bikes.
These
bicycles are engineered to spend a majority of their time offroad.
Taken out of their element, they become very labor intensive. This
may be the bike for you if your intentions are to be riding in situations
where you will be dealing with roots, rocks, ruts, and fallen trees.
